Bridal Hangers

As a photographer one of the most important things to me is the details.  You can literally make or break an image based on a few tiny details.  Just the smallest thing that doesn’t fit with the feel of the image can throw the entire thing off.  One of the most noticeable examples of this is the hanger that a wedding dress comes on.  It’s cheap.  It’s made to hold the dress before you put it on.  It is NOT made with wedding photographers in mind who love to shoot the dress hanging by itself BEFORE it is put on.

Etsy has picked up on this and you can find adorable wooden hangers with wire writing in the middle.  They also cost about $30 (for a hanger!) and can be made for closer to $2.

Caring about the details and wanting to gift my brides with something unique, I embarked on this project- to make hangers for all of my 2013/2014 brides.  It’s a perfect summer project for me since most of my 2013 weddings are in the Fall.

Here is how I do it:

Materials

  • Wooden hanger with slots (Target $3.99 for 5)
  • 12 gauge floral wire (Michaels $2.38 for 5 yards)
  • Hot glue gun (I used this since I had it on hand but you could also use a super glue or craft glue)
  • Needle nose pliers with wire cutter (Michaels $0.99 bin)
  • Drill and 5/64 bit
  • Fun font and printer

Directions

  • Print the phrase or name that you are going to use in your font of choice.  Feel Script is the font I use with my brand so it only made sense to use it for my hangers as well!  I made the font size 250 so it could be easily seen but still fit within the hanger.

  • Put the printed paper underneath the hanger to make sure it fits and to help you gauge how much wire to leave on both ends so that it can be attached to the wood.
  • Using your needle nose pliers and hands, gently bend the wire to match the font on the paper.

  • Set the wire aside and drill a tiny hole directly upwards at the end of the hanger

  • Dab the hole with glue, slightly bend the wire to fit and press firmly

  • Repeat on the other side and let cool
