They were described by the best man as a “power couple” and I think if that means two of the kindest souls with influence, compassion, and friends in every walk of life, then Ben and Eliza were aptly labeled. From women Eliza discipled to men Ben served with in Young Life, college friends that flew in from Florida, the two-week-old nephew and his brave parents, the florist, the graphic designer, grandma’s apple jelly favors; everyone was given honor by this amazing couple. Eliza wore her mother’s dress, originally worn 34 years earlier, on the same day. Each of the 232 guests had a handwritten note from Eliza. If being a power couple means to serve unreservedly, then yes. Absolutely. Ben joked that a conversation with Eliza is often like “20 questions”; what a gift she is to those around her!

Their Richmond wedding was saturated with the beauty that comes from knowing and loving people well. Their immeasurable joy in finally closing the chapter of their long distance dating relationship, was reciprocated in their friends and family that carried their story alongside them for so long.

And the story? It’s just as God-glorifying as they designed their wedding to be. For Ben, it was “love at first sight,” and slowly but surely Eliza’s affections were won by his steady and faithful pursuit. Lovers of adventure, dancing, ice cream (not cake), coffee, Jesus, and gratitude; these two so markedly belong together.

My prayer for these images is that they would serve as an Ebenezer for years to come, of the joy, the intention, and the all encompassing passion of the day their marriage began. Because in actuality: the beauty of their story is just beginning.
