Lately I’ve been loving destination portrait sessions. Not only are they exciting and inspiring but they hold so much meaning. Getting to celebrate an anniversary away, or even a weekend without the kids, is a big deal, and I believe, a beautiful thing to be preserved. Today I’m sharing my top three reasons to consider hiring a professional photographer for your next getaway portraits.

1. Invest in (and enhance!) lasting memories

When we look back at those images from getaways we’ve done together, we think: “remember how fun it was to get dressed up,” or, “remember that incredible cocktail we had afterwards?” and, “that walk by the water was so beautiful.” My friend Mary Marantz will tell you: “photography steps in and says this moment stays…” and she’s right. Something about the act of building and capturing those memories brings clarity and enjoyment for years to come.

2. Fall in love all over again

There is something magical about removing all components of the “ordinary” and allowing yourselves to get back to the basics of your relationship. How it all began, just the two of you. No dirty dishes or diapers. At least for the moment, your only job is to cuddle together, enjoy one another, and relax in the beauty around you!

3. See your destination (and relationship) through the eyes of an artist

There are portions of Charleston we wouldn’t have experienced or known about it Kaitlin hadn’t been taking our most recent getaway pictures. Even as an artist myself, I was so delighted to receive the images back from her and see the beauty she captured in our relationship in that moment in time. Getting to see Charleston through her perspective only made me love it and cherish our time there even more.
